IMPROVING BERRY VARIETIES THROUGH THE IDENTIFICATION AND UTILISATION OF THE BEST GENETIC RESOURCES

Objectives: Improving berry varieties through the identification and utilisation of the best genetic resources

 

These objectives will be attained by the following Tasks:

Task 1.1 Phenotyping and Characterisation of  pre-commercial Berry Germplasm

Sub-task 1.1.1 Data mining of existing characterisation data

Sub-task 1.1.2  Assessment of pre-commercial material

Task 1.2 Development of molecular tools for support and enhancement of berry fruit breeding

Sub-task 1.2.1 Strawberry (Fragaria)

Sub-task 1.2.2 Raspberry (Rubus)

Sub-task 1.2.3 Blackcurrant (Ribes)

Sub-task 1.2.4 Blueberry (Vaccinium)

Sub-task 1.2.5 Elaboration of a strategy to develop marker assisted breeding (MAB) for strawberry, raspberry, blackcurrant and blueberry and for important traits with breeders and associated SMEs

Task 1.3 Validation of the role of key genes in strawberry traits

Sub-task 1.3.1 Validation of nutritional quality-related genes

Sub-task 1.3.2 Validation of flowering-related genes
