Development of marker
D1.3: Development of marker-assisted breeding strategies for strawberry, raspberry and blackcurrant
The work within the EUBerry project WP1 has identified a series of putative and confirmed markers with potential utility in the identification and development of superior genotypes. These markers are identified in the following Excel spreadsheet, and they cover a range of important traits and characteristics. The use of these markers, depending on the projected end-result of the selection, can enable increases in breeding efficiency and a lowering of timescales for the production of commercially relevant varieties within the EU.
The Excel file is divided into crops, with markers of various types identified in each. The deployment status is also given, together with the availability of each marker and where possible a published reference where further information can be found (separate sheet). In some cases, validation work is still ongoing and the deployment status will be upgraded as this is completed.
The traits covered are:
Strawberry – disease resistance, flowering habit, fruit quality characters
Raspberry – fruit quality characters (physical and compositional)
Blackcurrant – pest resistance, fruit quality (physical and compositional
